HCE turns the IP phone sitting next to a patient's bed into an information terminal, which can be used by the patient or by the nurse. Patients can browse food menu and get a personalized phone directory to make calls to their family/friends. Nurses can use the IP phone to look at patient's chart, create a new chart and vital sign entry, check or order medication and supplies.

Because the extension is dedicated to the patient for the duration of stay at the hospital, HCE will keep track of patient's status and location.
